"MPU" stands for "Metal pop-up" which means the underneath parts of the faucet are metal instead of the plastic of the 538-DST. I have heard arguments for one material vs. the other (durability vs. no corrosion). I decided to go with metal.The faucet is attractive and has a nice weight to it though it does have a seam on the faucet spout that is not easy to see in the pictures. The installation instructions were more complicated than they had to be and spread out of order among a poster-size sheet (not the best medium when crammed under a sink) but I have done these before so it was not terribly difficult with a helper on top to make sure things are lined up. The faucet dispenses water with good flow and seems to respond more quickly to tempurature changes though the handle than the old faucet it replaced. The first installation, like many, was complicated by tight quarters but the faucet and drain went in with minimal fuss and worked fine from the get-go. Access was easier for the second faucet and installation was a snap. This unit's drain had a small leak where the pipe screws up into the bottom of the drain valve. Did not happen on the first drain. Wrapped the threads with Teflon tape and all's well. One other thing; the instructions say to use "silicon" to seal the drain flange. Makes a real mess so I used plumber's putty instead. No leaks and cleans up easily. Just bought a Delta Lahara shower set so you might guess that I'm satisfied. The brief leak issue is the only reason I didn't go five stars. Like with lovlies in the bar, "there ain't no 10's."
